ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Will DeMersseman shot an opening-round 74 and sits in a tie for third overall at the end of the first 27 holes of the USA South Tournament at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount.
The tournament was reformatted to 27 holes on each of the first two days as inclement weather is expected on Saturday.
Covenant sits in sixth overall in the nine-team field as the Scots shot a 330 in the first round. Piedmont leads the field after posting a 314 in the opening round.
DeMersseman was steady throughout his first round on Thursday. The junior had two birdies and rolled in 13 par putts en route to his team-leading 74.
Crawford Collett shot an 83 in the first round and is in a tie for 27th after 27 holes. Joel Dahms poured in an 86 and Isaac Duncan had an 87. Kenny Duffin is off to a good start in the second round as he has a team-best 39 through nine holes as he tallied two birdies.
Pfeiffer's Kevin Burris, the USA South Player of the Year, leads the field at 2-under after posting a 71 in the first round. DeMersseman is tied with four players for third at 7-over.
UP NEXT
The tournament will conclude with 27 holes on Friday as the Scots will tee off in the morning.
