DEMOREST, Ga. -- The Covenant women's tennis team was defeated 9-0 at Piedmont Wednesday afternoon.
The loss drops the Scots to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in USA South competition.
The top-seeded Lions cruised through the doubles portion, with a score of 8-1 in each match.
Maggie Moody and Megan Waldheim defeated Gillian Bosko and Madelyn Savage at the No. 1 slot, while Imani Vincent and Melissa Gish topped Mariah Westra and Kacey Melton at No. 2. Abbey Grace Venham and Kara Landsiedel beat Dani Rappuhn and Laney Beckwith at the No. 3 spot.
Piedmont went on to continue their stellar play, as they gained victories in all six singles matches in straight sets.
In No. 1 singles, Savage fell to Vincent 6-2, 6-1. Bosko was topped by Venham at No. 2 6-1, 6-1, while Landsiedel defeated Melton 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3. Rappuhn and Beckwith were both defeated with 6-0, 6-0 scores by Gish and Marion Sloyan at the No. 4 and 5 slots. And Rachel Marsh topped Anna Logan 6-1, 6-1 to round out the 9-0 sweep for the Lions.
Piedmont improves to 13-5 overall and remains undefeated in conference play (6-0).
