LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Three Covenant men's tennis players earned their first collegiate singles wins as the Scots won a fourth straight match with a 9-0 victory over Berea in USA South play on Wednesday afternoon at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
Covenant (6-3, 2-0 USA South) has won four straight matches, a season-best streak.
Freshmen Jeb Barnette, Andrew Graham, and Camden Lashley all collected their first career singles wins on the day as Covenant dropped only four games all afternoon.
Lashley took a 6-0, 6-0 win over Berea's Mike Mecham at the No. 4 spot, while Graham also had a straight-set win over Bek Rakhimov at the No. 6 position. Barnette was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at No. 5 over James Biley.
Covenant cruised to a 3-0 match lead with sweeps in the doubles portion of the match. Paxton Haggerty and Ben Luke were 8-0 winners at the top flight over Lavar Pharris and Jordan Peterson, Ethan Gibson and Barnette took a win over John Whitaker and Mecham at No. 2, while Lashley and Graham combined for the win at No. 3 over Zack Muse and Biley.
The doubles win for Graham and Lashley was their first as a tandem, and Graham's first overall collegiate doubles win.
Cameron Cortman took to the top flight in singles and handled Pharris, 6-1, 6-0. Chris Morton delivered a 6-0, 6-1 win over Whitaker at No. 2 to clinch the match for the Scots. Tyler Kelly also picked up a victory as he defeated Peterson, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
SCHEDULE CHANGE
Due to anticipated inclement weather on Saturday, Covenant's home match with Piedmont has been moved up to Friday, March 26 at 4 p.m. at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
