Scots Split Pair of Matches With Transy, Johnson

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon between Transylvania and Johnson.

The Scots dropped their first match of the day to Transylvania, 6-3, at the Covenant Tennis Complex before traveling down the mountain and taking a 9-0 win over Johnson at the Strang-Voges Tennis Complex at the McCallie School.

Covenant is now 3-5 on the year while Transy improves to 13-3. Johnson is now 3-5 on the season.

MATCH TWO: COVENANT 9, JOHNSON 0

Match number two of the day was a, 9-0, sweep over Johnson at the Strang-Voges Tennis Complex.

The match was moved off the mountain and indoors due to frigid temperatures throughout the evening on Lookout mountain.

The Scots took a 3-0 lead at the completion of doubles play and heading into singles competition.

Sara Blauw and Mariah Westra took an 8-1 victory over Brooke Hilemon and Keisha McIntyre at three doubles. Esther Eddy and Madelyn Savage defeated Olive Anderson and Iris Loveday, 8-1, at the one. Justine Blick and Laney Beckwith fought for an, 8-6, win against Hannah Ridenour and Annalise McDonald at the two spot.

Covenant continued their dominating play in singles competition dropping only one set in the match.

Eddy cruised to a, 6-0, 6-0, sweep over Ridenour at one singles. Gillian Bosko took down McDonald, 6-1, 6-0, at the two.

Margo Koby defeated Loveday, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 3 singles and Blauw won at the four slot, 6-1, 6-2, over Anderson.

At six singles Kayla Brown came away victorious, 6-4, 6-3, against Hilemon and Anna Logan won a three-set battle, 7-6, 1-6, 1-0 (8), over McIntyre at the five.

MATCH ONE: TRANSYLVANIA 6, COVENANT 3

The Scots dropped the first match of the day at the Covenant Tennis Complex on Lookout Mountain, 6-3, to the Pioneers. 

Covenant jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play taking two out of the first three matches.

Blick and Beckwith took down Christina Duvall and Alyssa Igyarto, 8-2, at three doubles while Eddy and Savage defeated Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton, 8-6, at the one.

Koby and Westra fell to Merrick Irwin and Sheila Cetina, 8-4, at the two slot to complete doubles play.

Transy took advantage in singles play taking five of the six matches.

Eddy claimed the lone singles win for the Scots winning, 6-2, 6-4, over Robinson.

Bosko fell, 6-3, 6-1, at the two and Blauw dropped the four slot, 6-0, 6-3. Koby played a tough match before eventually falling to Duvall, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

Blick played a tough three-set match dropping five singles, 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (7), to Igyarto.

The Scots continue their homestand on Tuesday against Pfeiffer at 2:30 p.m.
