BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Competing in a one-day meet at the Hilltop Classic, the Covenant track and field men placed fifth and the women sixth at the meet hosted by Birmingham Southern on Saturday.

The men's team picked up a total of 84 points in the meet, while the women tallied 57. The Scots had a number of athletes compete in off events as Covenant prepares for the final two meets of the season in April.

S.K. Lipperd had a strong run in the 1500 meter event as she placed first in her section, and second overall, with a time of 4:58.77. Michelann Settle was seventh overall in the event with her time of 5:10.60. In the men's 1500, Brendan Yeager was third overall with a time of 4:10.14, while Leif Le Mahieu was not far behind with his sixth place finish at 4:14.21.

In middle distance events, Maggie Henry placed third in the 800 meter as she came in at a time of 2:30.53. In the men's 400 meter, it was William Bryan that posted a season-best time for the Scots at 50.30 while placing second overall.

Ben Tyson was the top Scot finisher in the 200 meter as he finished in 23.94 to place sixth in the event. 

The women's 4x400 team of Virginia Kay Roberts, Henry, Nichole Rittgers, and Lipperd had a time of 4:27.96 to finish second in the three-team field in the event. The men's 4x100 group of Stefon Bright, Bryan, Joshua Pace, and Stephen Cone was third at 44.65.

Michael Rawlings placed seventh in the javelin with a mark of 43.83 meters. 

UP NEXT

As a team, Covenant will next compete at the Berry Field Day Invitational on April 12-13 at Mount Berry, Ga. Lilly Smith will compete individually at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic on Friday, April 5 on the campus of Auburn University. Smith will compete in the 5,000 meter at approximately 8:45 p.m. EDT.
