Relay Events Shine for Track & Field at Emory

ATLANTA, Ga. -- Another weekend and more impressive performances from the Covenant track and field teams. The Scots competed in the Emory Invitational on Friday and Saturday and set multiple program records in the process.

On this weekend, it was relays that took center stage for the Scots.

Both men's and women's teams set program records in the distance medley relay events on Friday. The women's group of Maggie Henry, Virginia Kay Roberts, S.K. Lipperd, and Lilly Smith took home first place and set a program record with a time of 12:50.57. The team trailed going into the final leg of the race before Smith caught up and passed the leader to get the Scots on top.

The men's DMR of Leif Le Mahieu, Stephen Cone, Brendan Yeager, and Jonathan George placed third with a program-best time of 10:45.84.

Also on Friday, Michael Rawlings broke his own program record in the javelin throw with his mark of 44.22 meters that placed him seventh in the event.

In Saturday's action, distance events were once again strong. Smith set a program record in the 1500 meter race with her time of 4:46.25 as she placed fifth in the top heat. Henry also had a strong time as she set a personal record at 5:06.11 in the event.

In the men's 1500, George toppled the program record as he completed the event in a time of 4:05.56. Micaiah Allison ran the event in 4:16.61, just .05 off his personal record, while Matthew Broussard set a personal-best in the distance at 4:17.70. Allison also competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Friday and came in ninth with a time of 10:10.55.

Covenant also had success in the 800 meter events on both the men's and women's sides. Yeager continued to drop his time as he set a program record in the 800 for a third straight week after finishing in a time of 1:58.83 and 15th overall. Le Mahieu set a personal record in the 800 at 2:00.15. For the women, Lipperd just missed a program record as she finished in 2:21.80 and was 13th overall.
