KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's tennis team picked up their first win of the year, defeating Maryville 6-3 in a non-conference matchup at Tyson Park.
Covenant (1-5) picked up the first point of the match as Laney Beckwith and Justine Blick defeated Kayla Basilio and Savannah Stewart 8-3 at three doubles. Maryville tied things back up at one taking the second doubles spot 8-3. The guests were able to take the final point of doubles play as Esther Eddy and Margo Koby took an 8-2 decision over Kayla Zimmerman and Anastasia Dunn.
Eddy got the ball rolling in singles play taking one singles 6-0, 6-1 over McKennah Francis. Blick got up 5-2 in set number one at the for spot before winning by retirement due to an opponent injury.
The Georgia Scots were able to clinch the match at three singles as Masha Lanska defeated Carter Dickinson 6-3, 6-3 for the fifth team point on the day. Beckwith ran away with her match taking six singles 6-0, 6-0 over Stewart.
Maryville (1-3) was able to take the final two matches of the day, both in three sets. Koby fell to Zimmerman 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) before Blauw dropped the final match of the day 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-3) to Basilio.

Covenant continues their road trip, traveling to Berea Saturday to take on the host Mountaineers and Transylvania at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
