ATLANTA, Ga. -- The seven-match winning streak came to an end for the Covenant men's tennis team on Wednesday evening with a 6-3 loss at region foe Oglethorpe.
The win streak set a program-record for Covenant (8-2), which is still off to its best 10-match start in the program's history.
Covenant collected its points from the play of seniors Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox. The duo moved to 10-2 overall on the year in doubles play with a win at the top spot after an Oglethorpe player got injured forcing a retired match. Harvie and Cox led 3-0 in the match when it was called.
In singles play, Harvie returned to the No. 1 spot and dominated Oglethorpe's Dustin Bowie 6-0, 6-1. Cox also had little difficulty in his match at the second position with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Judd Motz. The win was Cox's 47th of his entire career, including tournaments and all dual matches, as he approaches the overall program record of 50.
Oglethorpe (7-3) was able to hold off the Scots in all other contests. The host Stormy Petrels took a pair of 8-2 victories at the second and third doubles spot to grab a 2-1 match lead before extending the margin in singles play.
