Harvie, Cox Set Doubles Mark in Men's Tennis Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Covenant men's tennis seniors Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox each broke the program's career doubles victories record for dual matches and the Scots picked up their fourth win in a row with an 8-1 victory at Huntingdon in USA South action on Saturday.

Covenant (5-1, 2-0 USA South) continues to build on a strong start to the year as the Scots have won four straight and start 2-0 in league play for a second consecutive season.

Harvie and Cox teamed together at No. 1 doubles and swept by Huntingdon's John Jones and Bailey Burns 8-0. The win gave each player their 40th career doubles victory in dual matches, setting a program record once held by Josh Jeremiah.

Covenant swept through doubles play as Logan Hull and Taylor Galloway knocked off Mark Melchor and Ethan Fuller 8-2 at the No. 2 spot, while Trey Wetjen and Trey Wood defeated Adam Self and Ben Marler 8-5 at the third spot.

The Scots then sealed the win in singles play. Harvie took down Jones 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot and Cox was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Burns at the second flight.

The bottom half of the lineup also produced for Covenant. Galloway rallied for a three-set win over Melchor at the fourth spot 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6). Paxton Haggerty earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over Marler at the fifth flight, while Ben Tonkel wrapped up the victory with his 6-2, 6-1 win over Trevor Berry at No. 6.
