CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring in dominating fashion by knocking off Gadsden State 8-1 on Friday evening at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at McCallie.
Covenant moves to 2-1 on the year, while Gadsden State drops to 0-7.
The Scots took a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox cruised to an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 position, while Logan Hull and Micah Fox had little trouble at No. 2 with an 8-2 win. Connor Shimmel and Trey Wood completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3.
In singles play, Harvie defeated Chas Hannen 6-2, 6-2 at the top flight and Cox was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Paul Taylor at the second spot. Hull picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 and Ben Tonkel also won in straight sets at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Cody Minter. Trey Wetjen took a three set decision over Joel Wester by a score of 6-3, 1-6, 10-8.
