LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant men's tennis team led for much of Saturday afternoon's match at LaGrange, but the host Panthers rallied for the 5-4 victory in USA South action.
The loss snaps a four-match win streak for Covenant (5-3, 2-1 USA South). LaGrange goes to 3-2 overall and remains perfect in league play at 2-0.
Covenant started the match by taking two of the three doubles matches. No. 1 duo of Matthew Harvie and Chris Cox rolled to an 8-1 win in their match and No. 2 tandem of Michael O'Brien and Dan Madden won 8-6 as the Scots took a 2-1 match lead.
Harvie and Cox were also victorious in their singles matches. Harvie, playing at No. 1, shutout Henrique Sizenando 6-0, 6-0 while Cox took a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 2 over Drew Cantrell. But LaGrange would win the final four singles matches to claim the victory. In a decisive No. 6 singles match, Roy Anderson fell in three sets 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-3 to Zachary Tyner.
Covenant will be on the road again on Tuesday when they face Oglethorpe in Atlanta. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
