Men's Golf Competing at Chick-fil-A Invitational

ROME, Ga. -- James Van Nice led the Covenant men's golf team with a 75 as the Scots are in a tie for 17th after the first round of the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational hosted by Berry College.

Covenant shot a 310 on the opening day. Oglethorpe is the clubhouse leader after posting a 3-under 285 on the first day. Covenant holds the 17th position, out of 25, with Bluefield State, host Berry and Sewanee. Keaton Stamps of William Carey (Miss.) has the top individual spot after a day with his first round 66.

Van Nice continued his solid play this fall season with a 75 to put him in a tie for 39th individually. The sophomore had three birdies on the day. Van Nice has now posted consecutive 75s in his last two rounds of competition going back to the final round of the Piedmont Fall Invitational.

Nate Haney carded a 76 in round one, a season-low round for the freshman. Scott McKnight shot a 78 while Alan Craig and Nick Blauw each had 81s. Cameron Lewis posted a day one score of 82.

The tournament is being played at two different locations, Stonebridge Golf Club and Coosa Country Club, in Rome. Covenant played the Stonebridge course on Monday which yielded an average round of 80.
