ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- The Covenant men's golf team began its spring portion of the schedule on Monday. Trey Patterson shot an opening round 75, good for a tie of 12th place individually, to lead the Scots to a tie for eighth place after the first day of the Coastal Georgia Invitational at Sea Island's Retreat Course.
Patterson, coming off a sixth place finish at the NCCAA National Championships to close out the fall season, is six shots off the lead held by Faulkner's Daniel Jansen.
As a team, Covenant sits in a tie for eighth place with Truett-McConnell at 316. Faulkner leads the tournament after shooting a 286 on day one, 16 strokes better than second place Coastal Georgia.
Also for Covenant, freshman Levi Nix finished round one with a 78. Sophomore Cameron Lewis shot an 80, followed by sophomore Scott McKnight with an 83. Nick Blauw rounded out the Covenant golfers with a score of 90.
Covenant's lone female golfer, Maggie Mauze, ended round one with a 98.
Covenant will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning to complete the final day of the tournament.
