Nix Fires a 69, Men's Golf in 3rd after First Round of Emmanuel Invitational

TOCCOA, Ga. -- Freshman Levi Nix fired a round one low 69 to put him in first place and help Covenant to a third place finish after day one at the Emmanuel College Invitational held at the Currahee Club in Toccoa.

As a team, Covenant shot a 310 which puts them just seven shots behind leader Erskine College. Host Emmanuel is in second at 308. The tournament consists of 12 schools.

Nix is coming off a tied for fifth place finish at the Piedmont Invitational two weeks ago and the freshman continued his superb play on Monday. Nix's 69 is only one stroke short of tying the Covenant all-time record for lowest round score.

Trey Patterson sits in a tie for sixth after shooting a 76 in round one. Cameron Lewis (80) is in a tie for 21st, while James Van Nice (85) and Scott McKnight (88) are in 43rd and 57th, respectively.

Competing as an individual, Maggie Mauze posted a 91 on day one which puts her in a tie for 19th place.

Tee time for the second and final round is set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
