LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The 2012 Reeder Cup got underway on a sunny and warm Monday morning at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club. Covenant finished round one in fourth place, 11 shots off the lead, as Trey Patterson shot a team-best 76.
Fellow Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College is in the lead with a team score of 310. Hudson Keener had the top score of the day as he shot a 72, including three birdies. University of Mobile is in second at 313, Bethel (Tenn.) University sits in third after a 319. Sewanee rounds out the five-team tournament with a first round score of 326.
Patterson tied for the third lowest score of the day with his 76. As a team, Covenant shot a 321 and recorded eight birdies, which leads the tournament. Patterson sank two of those birdies in his round. Cameron Lewis shot an 80, including three birdies, which was good for 11th individually. Scott McKnight had an 81, while Nick Blauw and Alex Mosteller each shot an 84.
The notoriously tough Lookout Mountain course was at it again on Monday as the 28 players in the field averaged a score of 81.18 on the par-70 course. The course yielded just 27 birdies along with 49 double-bogeys. Sewanee's Saer Brown knocked in his second shot on the par-4 15th for the round's only eagle.
The final round of the Reeder Cup will take place on Tuesday morning beginning at 9 a.m.
