Patterson Shoots 2-Under; Covenant Earns Runner-Up Trophy

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. -- Freshman Trey Patterson led the charge for the Scots in round two of the 2011 Piedmont College Fall Invitational, shooting a tournament low 70 to help the Scots take second place in the field of 9 teams at the Orchard Golf and Country Club.  With the runner-up crown, the Covenant men take their lowest finish as a team since 2008.

Alex Mosteller (74, 76 – 150) joins Patterson (80, 70 – 150) as a member of the All-Tournament team, tying for 5th in the field of 46 individuals.  Cameron Lewis (74, 80 – 154) and Scott McKnight (80, 82 – 162) took third and fourth among Scots.

Covenant (308, 309 – 617) finished 23 strokes behind tournament champion Coastal Georgia University (300, 294 – 594).  The Scots expanded their day-one, 4 point lead over Piedmont to defeat the third place Lions (312, 311 - 623) by 6 strokes.

Patterson's 70 matched the low round for the event and marked his new scoring record.  His chip-in from 20 yards out on hole #3- the hardest hole on the course- was one of six birdies the freshman from Johns Creek, Georgia scored on the day, and perhaps more importantly, it was the one that got his round going.  Patterson also birdied the final two holes of his round to go from even par to 2 under.

Jordan Stern rounded out her event with a day two 82, facing a field which included #1 Methodist University.  The Lady Monarchs have won the Division III national title 14 years running, with 24 titles in the program's history.

Covenant's golf teams will travel next to Berry College for the Chik-Fil-A Invitational on October 3-4.
