CLARKESVILLE, Ga. -- Day two was unkind to the Covenant Scots as the team was unable to make up any ground on the four other competing institutions at the Great South Golf Championship on Tuesday. Covenant scored a team total 316 for the round and, as a result, dropped an additional 7 strokes out of 4th place. The Scots finished the tournament with a grand total of 627, while Maryville College- the other Scots- claimed the championship at 602.
Cameron Lewis led Covenant through the second day, posting his second consecutive 78. David Spencer (81), Dave Wilkinson (79), and Jon Spencer (78) all converged at 157 for the tournament, good enough for a tie at 14th place individually. Alex Mosteller matched his first round score of 82 again on day two to claim a 164 total.
The Maryville Scots entered the second day of competition with an 8 stroke lead. By the end of the championship, that lead had shrunken to just 1, but that was all that was needed. Maryville claimed 2 of the 5 par-or-better rounds in the event and were led by Trey Bridwell, who carded an even par 144 (73-71). LaGrange College took second place at 603. Piedmont College came in third at 611, and NCAA Div III #7 Huntingdon College (617) dropped from second to fourth between rounds.
