ROME, Ga. -- Freshman Cameron Lewis shot an even par for round two of the Rome News-Tribune Invitational to help the Scots claim 12th place out of 15 teams Tuesday. It's the best score the Huntsville native has ever recorded in a collegiate event and comes as part of a team-best 152 total score. The Scots shot a 631 (315-316) as a team, well ahead of 13th-placed Union College (KY) and not far behind 11th-placed Milligan College (623), 10th-placed Oklahoma Baptist University (615), and a handful of other teams that scored in the low 600s.
David Spencer had the next best round of day two, carding a 78 for a grand total 159 (81-78). His brother, Jon, bested that by 3 strokes for a 156 (76-80).
The event was won by the University of the Cumberlands Patriots, who erased a 5 stroke deficit to Lee University to take the championship trophy by a single stroke of the club. Tyler Smith of Lee won first place overall with a two-day total of 140 (67-73) while the Patriots boasted 2 of the top 5 spots.
