ROME, Ga. -- The Covenant men's golf team currently holds 12th place in the 15 team event through the first round of the Rome News-Tribune Invitational held at Stonebridge Golf Club near the campus of Berry College.  Sophomore Jon Spencer leads the Scots with the lowest round of the day.  His 76 (37-39) has him tied for 41st overall.  Alex Mosteller and the rest of the field of Scots are close behind: Mosteller 79, Dave Wilkinson 80, Cameron Lewis 80, and David Spencer 81.  Their 315 team score ranks 6 strokes behind both Milligan College and Oklahoma Baptist University.

Lee University holds a 5-stroke, first place lead with 2 players shooting under par, and Berry's Alex Irvin stands at the top of the leaderboard with his 6-under-par effort.  Highlights for the day included an ace of the 182-yard 15th by Irvin along with Lindenwood's Paul Colditz's hole in one on the 183-yard 12th.  The Scots have 9 birdies through the opening round.
