PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- Scots golfer Trey Patterson closed out the final round of the NCCAA National Championship event Wednesday afternoon with a third round 77.  The freshman completes the 7th annual tournament with a total score of 231, keeping pace with his scoring average of the first two rounds.  Patterson carded a 79 and a 75 over the first two days of competition but came up eight strokes shy of the All-American team.  His efforts placed him tied for 30th place in the field of 62 third round competitors.

"The future Q-School site proved to be a tough course with tough conditions for everyone," commented head coach Trevor Potts, "but Trey played very solid for three days.  If we could have made a couple more putts, we would have been right up there with the leaders.  I am very proud of him and the way he played, and I look forward to making the trip with him next year and hopefully the rest of the team."

The Lancers of California Baptist came away with the championship trophy after firing an event low team score of 887 (294, 302, 291).  CBU entered the final round of play with a five stroke lead and ended up winning the event by a total of 14 strokes.

Patterson was selected to the tournament as an individual after the Scots failed to qualify as a team.  For the Johns Creek, Georgia native, this season was marked by steadily declining scores, including an even par 72 at the Maryville College Invitational on October 8, then an even par 71 at the Oglethorpe University Invitational on October 18.

Covenant qualified as a team in 2010 and came away with 16th place.  The year prior to that, Covenant sent three individuals to compete at the annual event hosted by Majestic Resort and The Hombre Golf Club.

With the conclusion of the event, fall competition for Covenant's golf team has ended.  Patterson and the rest of the Scots will wait for the new year for more action.
