Atlanta, GA- The Stone Mountain Golf Club played host to the Emory Invitational golf tournament last weekend, and amongst the field of competitors were Covenant golfers Trevor Potts, Jon Jon Spencer, David Spencer, Dave Wilkinson, and Anthony Sligh. These five Scots entered the competition on the back-end of several disappointing results on the spring season, but were hoping to reverse their fortunes and finish the 2009-2010 year on a high note.
"Going into the tournament I was hoping to play well so that we could end the year on a positive," said junior Dave Wilkinson, "It's been a rough spring with all the nasty weather that has limited our practice time, and we were hoping to get back on track in this last tournament, but unfortunately it didn't turn out like that."
Indeed, the Covenant golfers finished a disappointing thirteenth out of seventeen teams, with Wilkinson posting an 82 and 79 through two rounds to finish tied for 48th with fellow Scots' golfer Anthony Sligh. Jon Jon Spencer put up the lowest scores for Covenant after posting an impressive day one 75 that had him sitting tied for 8th place. A rough day two, however, saw the freshman slip into 30th place after scoring an 83 in the second round. Other Covenant representatives David Spencer and Trevor Potts finished in 60th and 82nd places respectively, after posting scores of 166 and 172 through the two round event.
"Even though we showed a little bit of improvement in this last tournament, we still know we can play better," said Sligh after the event, "Hopefully we'll set out to practice and work hard over the summer and come back next year posting some lower scores."
