ATLANTA -- Alex Mosteller fired his second 69 of the fall season in the final round of the Royal Lakes Invitational, but the Scots fell to 12th place out of 16 teams in the last event of their fall, 2010 schedule. Mosteller (84, 69 – 153) took 46th overall and completed the tournament one stroke behind teammate Cameron Lewis (74, 78 – 152), Covenant's leader. The low round on day two helped the Scots move from 14th to 12th after day one, overtaking both Rhodes College and Millsaps College.
Dave Wilkinson shot a 157 (80, 77), Anthony Sligh a 160 (77, 83), and David Spencer a 176 (93, 83), but for the third event in a row, the upperclassmen found themselves trailing the two freshmen. The gap between the two classes at Oglethorpe was only 4 strokes, but a total of 17 golfers squeezed in between the two, forcing Wilkinson down to a 64th overall finish. Covenant recorded a 315 on the opening round, then missed their season low of 306 by a single shot in the final.
Huntingdon College (287, 287 – 574) edged out Methodist University (292, 284 – 576) by 2 strokes to earn the tournament championship. The Hawks claimed 4 of the top 15 spots, including a share of the number one. Jamey Lester, who was named a co-medalist with Methodist's Robby Bruns and California-Lutheran's Chad Gillepsie, tied for first individually with his 2 under par performance. Although Gillepsie left to catch a flight home after his 18-hole round on day two, Lester and Bruns battled in a playoff for the individual crown, and on the 39th hole of the event, Bruns' par on two was enough to earn him the ceremonial honors of first place.
The Scots have completed their fall leg of the 2010-11 season, but the group will continue to improve over the winter months until their return on February 28 at Callaway Gardens. Last year, the Scots finished 14th of 15 teams at the event in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
