BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- After the first round of the Birmingham Southern Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama, Covenant finds itself in a tough spot. Out of twelve competing teams, Covenant fell from fourth place after eighteen holes to last place after the initial 36.
Shooting a combined 311 after the first eighteen holes, led individually by junior
Trevor Potts' 74, the Scots found themselves in good position in the overall standings. However, after shooting a 324 in the afternoon round and dropping eight spots in those standings, they're hoping to rebound tomorrow.
After Monday's action, Berry College and Lee University are tied for the lead, both with a total score of 604, while Covenant has plenty of ground to make up with a first-round score of 634. Individually, senior Michael Dinwiddie had the best one-day score for the Scots at 155, shooting a 79 in the morning and improving on it with a 76 in the afternoon. Sophomore
David Spencer shot a 159, with scores of 80 and 79.
Trevor Potts shot a 160, with an afternoon 86 to go along with his 74 to begin the day. Sophomore
Dave Wilkinson shot a 161, with scores of 78 and 83, while fellow sophomore Michael Bowser rounded out the pack with a 185, shooting an 86 and a 99.
The men are in action again tomorrow, Tuesday, September 23, hoping to climb the standings and finish strong in their second tournament of the year.
