NEW ORLEANS -- Following strong performances over the first month of the season, the Covenant men's cross country team climbed into the USTFCCCA South/Southeast Region poll this week at No. 8.
It is the second time that the Covenant has earned a region ranking from the organization, and the first since debuting at No. 10 in the preseason poll prior to the 2018 season.
The Scots are one of two USA South members in the poll, as Berea is ranked No. 1 in the region.
Covenant placed 25th at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic last Saturday. Micaiah Allison posted the fourth-fastest 8k time in program history at 26:08.9, while Brendan Yeager recorded the fifth-best program mark at 26:16.7 in the event. Covenant's average time among the top five finishers in the meet was the fastest since the NCAA South/Southeast Region meet in 2017.
The Scots have three top-five finishes on the year, including a season-opening team title at the Mountaintop Invitational on Aug. 30. Covenant then placed fifth overall, and was the top Division III finisher, at the Wingfoot XC Classic on Sept. 20, before placing second at the Maryville Invitational on Sept. 27.
Covenant will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Berry Invitational.
