FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Three Covenant cross country runners earned USA South weekly awards, announced the conference on Monday afternoon. Lilly Smith was named the Runner of the Week on the women's side and S.K. Lipperd collected Rookie Runner of the Week honors, while Nate Collins garnered Rookie Runner of the Week on the men's side.

It is the sixth career runner of the week accolade for Smith, while it is the first career weekly honors for both Lipperd and Collins.

Smith, a senior from Weaverville, N.C., won the Mountaintop Invitational with a course and program-record time of 12:42.68 in the two-mile event. Smith's time and finish helped Covenant to a team title in the event. The time broke Smith's previous program record in a two-mile race set back in 2016, while it also set a course record by almost 24 seconds. Smith owns program records in both the two-mile and 6k.

Lipperd, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., made her collegiate debut by finishing second at the Mountaintop Invitational. She finished in a time of 12:55.50, the second fastest time in the course's event history. Lipperd was one of five Covenant runners to place in the top six overall helping the Scots to the team title in the event.

Collins, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., became the first Covenant freshman to win the Mountaintop Invitational. Collins came in at a time of 17:09.42 in the 5k, the third-fastest time in the event's history, to win the event. His time also helped Covenant to a team title as the Scots won both events for the fifth time.

Both Covenant teams will be back in action on Saturday at the Huntingdon Invitational in Grady, Ala. The women's meet begins at 11 a.m. EDT, while the men follow at 11:45.
