FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For a second time this season, Covenant women's cross country junior Lilly Smith has been named the USA South Runner of the Week, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.
Smith also collected runner of the week honors on Sept. 4. It is the fourth time in her career that she has garnered the weekly award from the USA South.
A junior from Weaverville, N.C., Smith put together an impressive performance in leading Covenant to a team title at the Maryville Invitational on Saturday. Smith finished the 6k in a time of 24:07.4 to place second overall in the event and pace the Scots to the title. The time was a personal best for Smith and was also the fourth fastest in the 6k in program history.
In three races this season, Smith has paced the team twice and has two top 10 finishes. Her time on Saturday was also the second fastest 6k in the USA South this year.
Covenant will travel to Orlando, Fla., on Saturday for the annual Disney Cross Country Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
