FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant senior cross country runner Spookie Eaves has been named the USA South Runner of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

Eaves becomes the first Covenant student-athlete to earn a weekly USA South honor in the 2015-16 academic year. It's also the first time Eaves has garnered runner of the week accolades in her career.

The senior from Lakeland, Fla., led Covenant to a 13th place finish, out of 22 teams, at the Furman University Classic on Saturday with her personal record 6k time of 24:16.89. That time put Eaves in 36th place overall out of over 200 runners at the event and bested her previous personal record by 13 seconds.

Covenant will compete for a third straight week when they travel to Oakwood, Ga., next Saturday for the University of North Georgia Invitational.
