Cargill, Fitch, Kaufmann Earn Weekly USA South Cross Country Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For a fourth time this season, the Covenant cross country teams have swept the USA South weekly awards. The conference announced on Monday afternoon that Ruthie Cargill had been named Runner of the Week on the women's side while Margaret Fitch was the Rookie Runner of the Week. On the men's side, Eliot Kaufmann took both the Runner and Rookie of the Week awards for a second time this year.

The three runners were a part of four Covenant student-athletes recognized this week by the USA South.

Cargill led Covenant to a sixth place finish out of 12 teams at the University of North Georgia Invitational on Saturday. The junior from Lancaster, Pennsylvania, set a personal record in the 5k with a time of 20:38 to place 22nd overall, 20th for team results, out of 103 competitors. In each of her last two events, Cargill has set new personal bests.

Fitch earns Rookie Runner of the Week for a fourth time this season after finishing 29th at the University of North Georgia Invitational on Saturday with her 5k time of 21:08. The freshman from San Antonio, Texas, helped Covenant to a sixth place finish in the event.

Kaufmann earns his second Runner of the Week honor to go along with his fourth Rookie Runner of the Week accolade. The freshman from New York led the men's team to a fourth place finish out of seven teams at the University of North Georgia Invitational. He ran the 8k course in a time of 27:29 to place ninth individually.

The Covenant teams will be back in action this Saturday at the Maryville College Invitational. The women's race begins at 9:15 a.m., while the men start at 10:15 a.m.
