Scots Weekly: Stats & Notes (Sept. 23-28)

Conference play is fully underway as Covenant teams played against USA South competition for most of the week. Men's soccer pulled out a 1-1 week with a conference win at LaGrange, women's soccer also went 1-1 in league play. Volleyball fell in five sets at home before getting two wins on the away from campus, while cross country again bested all other USA South schools in a meet.

BY THE NUMBERS:

1: The number of goals this season by junior Hudson Brock before his hat trick in Saturday's 5-0 win at LaGrange. Brock netted his first collegiate hat trick and became the first Covenant player to accomplish the feat since Tyler Morrison on October 19, 2012 at Emory.

12: The number of personal records set by cross country runners in Saturday's Greensboro XC Invitational. Beth Burgess, Esther Anderson, Natalie Barkmann, Grace Bodron, Holly Smith and Alicia Zanoni set new records on the women's side. On the men's side it was Stephen Dillon, Matt Gorter, Jack Williams, Si Mitchell, Caleb Spykstra and Hunter Rasmussen. Both teams finished better than all other Division III schools in the event.

6: The number of different players that scored in women's soccer's 6-0 rout of Mary Baldwin on Friday evening. Bethany Logan, Anne Charlotte Strawbridge, Anna Porch, Madison Smartt, Rachel Bernard and Katherine Keller all had goals. Goals for Smartt and Keller were the first of their collegiate careers.

2010: The last time the Covenant men's golf team was selected to the NCCAA Men's Golf Championship field. The Scots will head back to the tournament in October after being selected last week.

7: Number of double-doubles for junior setter Stephanie Kirkpatrick this season. Kirkpatrick accumulated two this past week with 49 assists and 22 digs against Piedmont and 29 assists and 14 digs at LaGrange.

NOTES:

Both cross country teams have finished ahead of their USA South counterparts in all events this fall... Men's soccer head coach Nathan Pifer is one win shy of No. 250 for his four-year men's college coaching career... The women's soccer team's six goals on Friday were the most since Sept. 22, 2012 in a 7-0 win at Wesleyan... Volleyball is 2-2 in USA South play after going 2-1 last week.
