SEWANEE, Tenn. -- Spookie Eaves placed sixth in the 1500 meter and Beth Burgess finished seventh in the 3000 meter to lead 12 Covenant men's and women's runners at Sewanee's Mountain Laurel Twilight Invitational on Friday, April 17.

Five women and seven men competed in events throughout the evening for Covenant.

Eaves won her 1500 meter heat with a personal best time of 5:11 and placed sixth overall. She also ran in the 800 meter race and finished in 2:37.

"At the 800 Spookie took the lead and never looked back. She looked strong and has had a great spring," head coach Katie Stanford said.

In her last collegiate race, Burgess finished seventh in the 3000 meter event with her personal record time of 11:13.

"Beth ran a personal best and scored for us so it was a perfect way to end her collegiate career," Stanford said.

Ruthie Cargill and Esther Anderson also competed in the 3000 meter event and Cargill finished at 11:38 for a personal best.

On the men's side, Eliot Kaufmann raced in the 800 meter event and won his heat with a time of 2:04. "Eliot was trying to go under 2:00 today but unfortunately was the top seed in the second heat and had to race out front by himself the entire two laps. When that happens there is not a whole lot you can do about it," Stanford said.

John Weaks raced in his first 3000 meter and placed 11th with a time of 9:52. Graham Massot competed in his second 3000 meter steeplechase of the year and finished in a personal record time of 10:47.

The men also formed the first 4x400 relay team. Massot, Weaks, Justin Jantomaso and Kaufmann formed the team and finished in 3:53.
