FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For a third consecutive week the Covenant cross country teams have swept the USA South weekly awards. Beth Burgess (Runner of the Week) and Margaret Fitch (Rookie Runner of the Week) earned honors for a third straight week on the women's side. On the men's side, Graham Massot earned his second Runner of the Week award of the season, while Eliot Kaufmann was the Rookie Runner of the Week for a third straight time.
The four runners were a part of five Covenant student-athletes to be recognized by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Burgess finished third out of 83 at the Saucony Invitational as she ran the 5k course in a time of 20:21. The senior from Nicholasville, Kentucky, saw her string of two straight individual titles snapped but she still led Covenant to a team victory.
Fitch, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas, finished the 5k course in a time of 21:06 which placed her fifth overall at the Saucony Invitational. She was one of five Covenant runners to place in the top 10.
Massot wins the runner of the week award for a second time this year after finishing second at the Saucony Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore from Rochester, Minnesota, ran the 8k course in a time of 29:30 to help Covenant to a first place finish.
Kaufmann is honored for the third consecutive week. The freshman from New York, placed fifth at the Saucony Invitational with a time of 30:05 and was one of four Covenant runners to finish in the top 10.
