FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- For a second consecutive week, Covenant cross country runners swept the weekly USA South awards. Beth Burgess was named Runner of the Week, while teammate Margaret Fitch was the Rookie Runner of the Week on the women's side. On the men's side, Eliot Kaufmann was named both the Runner and Rookie Runner of the Week.
The three runners are a part of five Covenant student-athletes that earned recognition from the USA South this week.
Burgess won an event for a second straight week and posted a new school record time in the 6k of 23:44 at the Sewanee Invitational on Saturday morning. The senior from Nicholasville, Kentucky, helped Covenant to a third place team finish, while placing first out of 74 runners. This is Burgess' second straight USA South honor and fifth overall since the start of last season.
Also for a second straight week, Fitch earned Rookie Runner of the Week honors. The freshman from San Antonio, Texas, finished 18th out of 74 at the Sewanee Invitational on Saturday. Fitch ran the 6k course in a time of 26:27 to help Covenant to a third place finish.
Kaufmann earned both USA South awards this week after posting an 8k time of 27:26 at the Sewanee Invitational on Saturday. The freshman from New York, placed 12th out of 69 to lead Covenant to a fifth place team finish. The 8k event was the first at the distance for Kaufmann.

Both Covenant teams will compete in the Saucony Invitational in Helen, Georgia on Saturday. The men's event begins at 8 a.m., while the women go at 8:45 a.m.
