LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The 2019-20 Covenant volleyball team picked up one more team honor as it was recognized as a Team Academic Award recipient from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Monday.
It is the fifth time in the NCAA era, and the second consecutive year, that Covenant has collected academic honors from the AVCA.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. A record 1,313 programs earned honors this year.
Covenant, under head coach Joanna Ehman, was one of eight USA South institutions to earn recognition this year.
The volleyball program's success in the classroom helped the department to the institution's NCAA-era record 3.35 GPA during the spring semester in 2020.
