ROME, Ga. -- Following a standout performance to help secure the Covenant volleyball team's seed in the USA South Tournament, freshman Jess Chesrown earned USA South Rookie of the Week, for the period ending on Nov. 3, announced the conference on Monday.
Chesrown becomes the first Scot to earn a volleyball weekly award this year.
A freshman from Fort Collins, Colo., Chesrown averaged 3.60 kills and 1.60 blocks per set as the Scots posted a 2-1 record last week. In a crucial 3-1 win over USA South foe Piedmont on Saturday, Chesrown posted a career-high 15 kills to go with four blocks and one assist. Later on Saturday, the freshman posted one kill and two digs in just one set played in a sweep of Brevard. Earlier in the week, Chesrown notched two kills and four blocks in just one set played in a loss to Sewanee.
On the year, Chesrown is averaging 1.72 kills per set, with 86 total kills, with 22 total blocks. In conference play alone, Chesrown is averaging 2.32 kills and 0.58 blocks per set.
Covenant (10-17, 9-5 USA South) is the No. 3 West seed in the USA South Tournament and will face No. 6 West seed Piedmont in the first round on Tuesday in Montgomery, Ala. First serve is set for 5 p.m. CST (6 p.m. EST).
