LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The 2018-19 Covenant volleyball team picked up one more team honor as it was recognized as a Team Academic Award recipient from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) earlier this week.
It is the fourth time in the the NCAA era that Covenant has collected academic honors from the AVCA. In addition to earning the award, Covenant ranked inside the top 25 for GPA among NCAA Division III members, its highest-ever finish.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. A record 1,125 programs earned honors this year, including 175 NCAA Division III members.
Covenant was one of four USA South institutions to earn recognition this year joining Huntingdon, Maryville, and Meredith.
Covenant finished the 2018 season with a 15-13 overall record and a fourth straight USA South division regular season championship. The Scots were also awarded the USA South Team Sportsmanship award for a fourth straight year.
The Scots open the 2019 season on Aug. 30 at Birmingham Southern.
