FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant volleyball freshman Riley Howe has been named the USA South Rookie of the Week, for the period ending on Oct. 21, announced the conference on Monday.
Howe becomes the first Covenant player to earn a weekly conference honor this year. She is also the first Scot to earn a Rookie of the Week award since Ginny Moore received the honor twice in 2014.
A freshman from Belfast, N.Y., Howe averaged 3.33 kills and 1.78 digs per set as the Scots posted a 1-2 record last week. In a 3-1 loss to 16th-ranked Berry, Howe posted seven kills, six digs, two service aces and one block. In a 3-0 loss to USA South foe Huntingdon on Saturday, Howe contributed a career-high 14 kills, three digs, two service aces, one assist and one block. Finally, in a 3-0 win over Agnes Scott, Howe posted nine kills, seven digs, two blocks and one service ace.
For the season, Howe is averaging 2.02 kills and 0.98 digs per set over 21 matches and 50 sets played.
Covenant (12-12, 10-2 USA South) returns home for the final three matches of the regular season this week, beginning with Berea on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
