FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Covenant volleyball sophomore Emily Moore has been named the USA South Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 22, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.
The honor is the first career weekly award for Moore. She joins her older sisters, Ginny Moore and Schuyler Moore, as conference weekly award honorees this season. It also marked the first time in over two years that a Covenant player has received the defensive player of the week award from the conference.
A sophomore from Fort Myers, Fla., Moore started at libero in all three of Covenant's matches last week and averaged 6.00 digs per set to help lead the Lady Scots to a 3-0 record. In a 3-0 victory over the top-ranked team in the region, Berry, Moore tallied 18 digs, two assists and one kill. In a 3-0 win over USA South foe Huntingdon, Moore posted 17 digs, four assists and one service ace. Finally, in a 3-1 win over USA South member Agnes Scott, Moore notched 25 digs, two assists and one service ace.
On the year, Moore is averaging 3.14 digs per set in 24 matches.
Covenant (18-7, 11-0 USA South) wrapped up the USA South West Division title last week and will look to keep its 10-match winning streak alive on Tuesday at Berea. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
