BREVARD, N.C. -- After dropping the first set, the Covenant volleyball team rebounded and took a 3-1 (16-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16) victory over Brevard on Saturday afternoon inside Boshamer Gym.

Covenant was also supposed to play USA South foe Wesleyan on Saturday, but the Wolves cancelled the rest of their season on Friday. The Lady Scots have won nine of the last 10 matches, with only a loss to No. 3 Emory in the middle, and improve to 12-7 overall.

The first set was a struggle for Covenant as Brevard (8-4) took a 25-16 victory. The host Tornados hit a match-best .351 in the frame with 17 kills and led nearly throughout the game to take the win.

But the tide began to turn for the Lady Scots in the second set. Covenant tallied 16 kills in the set and pulled away late to even the match at 1-1. The Lady Scots held a slim 18-16 lead before scoring seven of the final nine points of the game, including each of the last four. Hannah Harris and Alexa Spurling had consecutive kills to end the set and tie the match up.

In the third set, Covenant scored five straight to take a 10-6 lead, as Jessica Seehorn tallied a pair of aces during the stretch. The Lady Scots would not trail the rest of the game and held off Brevard over the final few points to take a 2-1 match lead. Brevard did cut the margin to 23-20 late, but a Tornado service error and then a Spurling kill thwarted the comeback.

It was then all Covenant in the fourth. The Lady Scots got off to a 14-2 lead and never looked back to complete the comeback win. Emily Moore and Schuyler Moore each had two service aces within that early stretch of the game to seize control.

Harris led the way with 14 kills, while Seehorn added 12 and 13 digs. Spurling added eight kills, Ginny Moore and Schuyler Moore had seven kills apiece, with Schuyler tallying 38 assists, 13 digs and five aces in the process. Ginny Moore also had 15 digs. Hannah Stewart led the team with 17 digs and Emily Moore chipped in 12. As a team, Covenant recorded five service aces and out-dug Brevard 74-64.

Brevard was led by 16 kills each from Hannah Elmore and Stephanie Lambert. Josie McElroy had 39 assists and Maggie Weiss 16 digs.

Covenant will travel to Maryville on Tuesday for a USA South West matchup. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
