ATLANTA, Ga. -- Facing one of the top teams in the country, the Covenant volleyball team took No. 3 Emory to extra points in the third set but ultimately were swept in a 3-0 loss (25-15, 25-14, 29-27) at Woodruff PE Center on Thursday night.

The loss snapped a five-match win streak for Covenant (8-7). Emory (12-1) has won 11 straight and moved up a spot in this week's AVCA Top 25 for Division III to No. 3.

Facing a 2-0 deficit, Covenant responded with a strong effort in the third set. Covenant went on an 8-2 run early in the frame to grab a 10-6 lead after a combined block from Schuyler Moore and Allie Jakes forcing an Emory timeout. The Lady Scots would also hold 14-11 and 17-14 leads during the set before Emory came back each time. Covenant would have set point chances twice, but Emory fought through those and would eventually pull out the 29-27 victory for the match. In total, the set featured 12 ties and four lead changes.

Ginny Moore led Covenant with eight kills to go along with nine digs. Hannah Harris tallied six kills and Chloe Storm had a team-high six total blocks. Schuyler Moore recorded 19 assists and eight digs, while Emily Moore led the defense with 13 digs. Jessica Seehorn added 10 digs and two total blocks.

Emory only trailed once over the first two sets to gain a 2-0 match lead. The host Eagles used 12 team blocks to limit Covenant to a negative hitting percentage, while flexing their collective muscle on the attack. Ranked in the top five nationally in kills per set and hitting percentage, Emory finished with just a .169 percentage but tallied 21 kills in the decisive third set victory.

Sara Carr led Emory with nine kills, while Sydney Leimbach had seven and three other Eagles had six apiece. Mady Arles had 20 assists and Elyse Thompson had a match-high 19 digs in the win for Emory.

Covenant will return to Barnes PE Center on Saturday for a USA South tri-match. The Lady Scots face Huntingdon at 12 p.m., then Agnes Scott at 4 p.m. Huntingdon and Agnes Scott face each other at 2 p.m.
