FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- With a 2015 USA South regular season championship in the South division, the Covenant volleyball team picked up several postseason honors as the conference announced its All-USA South teams on Thursday. Head coach Joanna Ehman was named the Coach of the Year, while Ginny Moore, Schuyler Moore and Chelsea VanDyk earned first team All-USA South honors.
Senior Jaclyn Stuart was Covenant's representative on the All-Sportsmanship team.
Ehman, in her third year at the helm of her alma mater, guided the Lady Scots to a South division crown with a 13-3 conference record and the top overall spot in this weekend's USA South Tournament. In three years, Ehman has a 64-33 coaching record and has managed to increase the number of conference wins in each season, culminating in a program record 13 victories this year. Ehman joins cross country head coach Katie Stanford and tennis head coach John Hirte as the only Covenant coaches to be named coach of the year in the USA South.
VanDyk, a senior from Manhattan, Mont., earns first team all-conference honors for a fourth consecutive year. The senior had another outstanding season averaging 3.07 kills per set with a hitting percentage of .320, which currently leads the conference. VanDyk was named USA South Player of the Week on Sept. 28 after tallying 4.82 kills per set while hitting at a .588 clip. She recorded her 1,300th career kill during the year and is second all-time in career kills in program history.
Ginny Moore, a sophomore from Fort Myers, Fla., is an All-USA South player for a second straight year after picking up second team honors last year. Moore is second in the conference in kills per set at 3.89 while also tallying 3.98 digs per set. She was a two-time USA South Player of the Week honoree during the year earning the accolade on Sept. 21 and Oct. 5. Moore has 19 double-doubles on the year and set a career-high in kills with 28 in a five-set win over Averett on Oct. 10.
Schuyler Moore collects her first All-USA South first team honor, and second all-conference award, in her career. The sophomore setter from Fort Myers, Fla., is third in the USA South with 9.15 assists per set and has 961 total assists on the year. She set a program record in the 25-point era with 57 assists in a five-set win over Piedmont on Oct. 20. Moore was named USA South Player of the Week on Oct. 12.
Stuart, a senior from Locust Grove, Ga., has been an essential piece during Covenant's run to the regular season championship. The defensive specialist has a career-high 212 digs on the year, including 17 against Birmingham Southern on Oct. 28.
Averett's Hannah Shields was named the USA South Player of the Year, while teammate Keenan Marks earned Rookie of the Year honors. Methodist's Karly Klimas picked up Libero of the Year honors. All awards are voted on by the volleyball coach at each institution.
Covenant hosts the USA South Tournament this weekend. The Lady Scots face Ferrum in a quarterfinal match on Friday at 7 p.m.
