LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant volleyball team snapped its six-match losing streak in a big way on Saturday with straight set victories over Huntingdon and LaGrange in a USA South quad-match at Barnes Physical Education Center.

Covenant moves to 3-6 on the year and 2-1 in league play.

MATCH ONE: Covenant 3, Huntingdon 0

Ginny Moore and Chelsea VanDyk combined for 26 kills as the Lady Scots fended off a pesky Huntingdon squad in three sets. Set scores were 25-15, 25-18, 25-16.

Morgan Opgenorth was also efficient with six kills and a .455 hitting percentage to go along with three total blocks. Schuyler Moore tallied 31 assists, four kills and five digs in the win, while Ariana Buchanan recorded 10 digs.

The first set saw three ties and two lead changes, but Covenant's attacking ability eventually won out. The Lady Scots registered 14 kills in the set. Covenant went ahead by as many as 11 at 17-6 and ended the set on a Schuyler Moore kill.

Huntingdon also hung around in the second game before Covenant pulled away. Trailing 11-7, the Lady Scots scored nine of the next 11 points, capped by a VanDyk ace, to go ahead 16-13. Covenant would not trail the rest of the set. In the third set, Covenant bolted to a 14-4 lead and never looked back to secure the match.

Kalen Morgan and Bria Rochelle each had seven kills for the visiting Hawks (3-9, 0-2 USA South). Cora Murchison tallied 13 assists in the loss.

As a team, Covenant held a 40-23 edge in kills and 42-35 in digs.

MATCH TWO: Covenant 3, LaGrange 0

In the finale of the quad-match, Covenant dominated LaGrange with 25-14, 25-8 and 25-14 set victories to finish the day 2-0.

Ginny Moore led all players with eight kills and Schuyler Moore totaled 25 assists. Olivia Becker produced five kills as nine different Lady Scots recorded at least one kill. Buchanan picked up 14 digs, a match-high.

The first set was the most tightly contested with five ties and two lead changes. Covenant slowly built a lead throughout the set and scored the final seven points of the game, highlighted by Ginny Moore's service ace to end the set.

In the second set, Covenant scored eight of the first nine points on its way to a rout and a 2-0 match lead. The Lady Scots had 11 kills in the game and took advantage of LaGrange's 10 attack errors to coast to the win.

It was more of the same in the third set as the Lady Scots took an 11-1 lead and never looked back as they clinched another straight set victory.

Emily Arnold had six kills for LaGrange (7-6, 0-2 USA South) which also got seven assists and eight digs from Lauren Sanders.
