LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Joanna Ehman has been promoted to Head Volleyball Coach, announced Director of Athletics Kyle Taylor late last week.
Ehman has spent the last two seasons as an assistant to Heather Taylor after spending one year as an assistant at Bryan College under Leo Sayles. Ehman was a four-year player for the Lady Scots. She was captain her final two seasons and finished her career with 1,609 assists and 1,153 digs in 427 career games.
"I feel blessed to be able to take on this role. Coach [Heather] Taylor has poured so much into the team during her time here and has built a successful volleyball program. Now, after playing for her and coaching under her, I have the opportunity to continue to build on what she established," said Ehman. "Coach Taylor not only has a passion for the game, but a heart for ministering to her players. I am thankful for the example she has set for me as well as the team, and I am excited to move into this role after being mentored by her."
"I am excited to have Joanna's leadership as we move the volleyball program into the next phase with hopefully full membership in the NCAA and USA South Athletic Conference," commented Kyle Taylor. "She is an incredibly hard worker, knowledgeable volleyball coach, and up and coming recruiter. She has a passion for the game of volleyball, knows her stuff, and what she doesn't know has the humility to ask questions and learn."
Heather Taylor decided to step away from her head coaching role to focus on raising her three children. Taylor won 124 games in eight seasons as head coach, including 22 or more the last two years and a GSAC regular season title this season. She was also named Coach of the Year in both the GSAC and the NCCAA Mid-East Region this past season. "I'm grateful to the Lord and to Covenant for the past eight seasons and I am confident that His timing is perfect," said Taylor.
"I greatly admire Heather for all that she has done to serve the women's volleyball players over the past eight years," commented Kyle Taylor. "She did that all while taking care of her home and raising three amazing boys."
