LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant volleyball team took two more victories on Saturday in their hosted tri-match at Barnes Physical Education Center. Covenant defeated GSAC member Salem College 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-18), and then bested Judson College 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-11).
With the wins, Covenant improves to 21-6 on the season, marking the second consecutive year that the Lady Scots have achieved 20 or more wins. The win over Salem also meant a perfect conference regular season record for the Lady Scots at 10-0. Covenant dropped just one set in conference matches.
Pretoria den Boer tallied seven kills, seven digs, and three aces in the Salem match. Jessica Chittenden chipped in seven kills herself. Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 21 assists and seven digs, while Cora Schroeder and Hannah Rogers each had three aces.
Covenant took an early 7-0 lead in the first set, thanks to a pair of Rogers aces. Salem got back into the match as they got to within one point at 11-10, but Covenant would go on a 9-2 scoring run to seize control of the set.
In the second set, the Lady Scots found themselves down 18-16, but rallied to gain nine of the final 14 points to go ahead 2-0 in the match. Covenant pulled away early in set three to cruise to the match win.
In the Judson match, Covenant never trailed as they posted another sweep. Chelsea Van Dyk powered her way to 11 kills, while Schroeder tallied 10 kills. Kirkpatrick recorded 26 assists, four digs, and two kills, with den Boer adding another solid match with seven kills and seven digs.
Covenant will face Oglethorpe University on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. on Lookout Mountain. Before the match, the Lady Scots will honor both of their seniors, Paige Cheney and Jessica Chittenden, as part of Senior Night.
