LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's tennis team took a 2-1 lead after doubles and Nicole Restrepo's match-clincher at No. 3 singles sealed a 6-3 win for the Scots over visiting Pfeiffer on Tuesday evening at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
Covenant improves to 4-5 on the year, while Pfeiffer drops to 0-7. It was the first all-time meeting between the two USA South programs, but the match does not count toward league standings.
The Scots opened the match by winning 2-of-3 in doubles play. Margo Koby and Mariah Westra combined for an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot over Pfeiffer's Emma Gray and Sydney Honeycutt to give Covenant a 1-0 match lead.
The reigning USA South Doubles Team of the Week in Esther Eddy and Madelyn Savage continued their hot streak at the No. 1 flight with an 8-4 win over Anna Branson and Sydney Gray. Eddy and Savage have won five straight matches as a tandem.
Taking a one-point lead into singles, Covenant won each of the first three completed singles matches to secure the win.
Gillian Bosko gave the Scots a 3-1 lead as she defeated Sydney Gray 6-1 in the opening set before Gray retired due to injury. At the No. 4 spot, Savage was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Elithe Hudson before Restrepo clinched the match win for the Scots with her 6-1, 7-5 victory over Honeycutt at No. 3.
Koby wrapped up the match with a three-set win over Haylee Dixon 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-7.
Covenant will travel to Macon, Ga., and open USA South play against Wesleyan on Friday. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
