SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's tennis team fell, 9-0, to Sewanee on Friday evening from the Charlotte Guerry Indoor Courts on the campus of the University of the South.
Covenant is now 1-3 to start the season while Sewanee improves to 3-0.
The Tigers got the match started with a sweep over doubles all by an 8-2 score.
Gracie Hughes and Madeline Cummings took down Nicole Restrepo and Maria Westra at three doubles before Abbie Vaughn and Lauren Wilson picked up the two flight win over Gillian Bosko and Justine Blick. Caroline Adams and Darby Duval completed the sweep at the one spot against Esther Eddy and Madelyn Savage.
In singles play, Justin Blick won the most games in a set falling 6-4, 6-0 at the five slot to Kaylin Thompson. Savage fell 6-2, 6-2 to Hughes at four singles position.
The Tigers clinched the match as Wilson took down Restrepo 6-0, 6-2 at the three singles flight and Eddy was the only other Scot to grab a game falling to Duval 6-1, 6-0 at the one.
Sewanee came into the contest ranked eighth regionally and 31st in the nation in the latest ITA rankings.
Covenant returns to the mountain for their home opener on Saturday as they take on Birmingham Southern at 2:30 p.m.
