ROME, Ga. -- The Covenant women's tennis team picked up nine singles wins and five on the doubles side last weekend at the ITA South Regionals in Rome, Ga., hosted by Berry College.
The Scots found success in the singles portion of the tournament as three players collected two wins each.
Margo Koby, Justine Blick, and Madelyn Savage all won their opening round matches in the same draw. Koby knocked off Savannah Young of Birmingham Southern by a 6-4, 6-4 score, while Blick was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Guilford's Delaney Taylor, and Savage won 6-0, 6-0 over Emilie Ferguson of Belhaven. Koby would advance to the semifinals of the draw after defeating Emory & Henry's Logan Graham 6-3, 7-5. Blick and Savage both fell in three sets in their quarterfinal round contests.
Laney Beckwith also had two wins in her draw as she defeated Piedmont's Kaitlyn House 6-3, 6-1 and then took a 6-3, 6-2 win over Piedmont's Val Zhurakovskya in the quarterfinals. Sara Blauw picked up two wins in her consolation draw as she produced a 6-0, 6-1 win over Maria Berroa of Oglethorpe before knocking off Oglethorpe's Brooke Dotson 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinals of the draw.
After falling in the first round of the main draw, Esther Eddy rebounded with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Macey Lea of Belhaven in the consolation bracket.
Covenant had five wins in doubles play. Nicole Restrepo and Mariah Westra combined for a pair of wins as they took down Guilford's Jessica Fuentes and Megan Kimpel 8-0 and then defeated House and Zhurakovskya of Piedmont by an 8-3 score.
Eddy and Gillian Bosko had an 8-6 victory over Alyssa Yager and Katie Collar of Birmingham Southern, while Koby and Savage took an 8-7(4) win over Karleigh Dills and Faith Van Rengen 8-2.
Covenant will open the spring season on Feb. 15 against Centre in Danville, Ky.
