LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- After losing top players to graduation, the Covenant women's tennis team went through a rebuilding year in 2019. With six newcomers on the roster, head coach John Hirte's squad still managed to collect seven wins on the year.

Covenant missed the USA South Tournament for the first time in six years, but growth was seen throughout the lineup as the year progressed.

Esther Eddy earned All-USA South West Division first team honors, her second straight All-USA South nod. Eddy paced the team with 10 singles wins, all the No. 1 flight, and added eight more doubles wins with partner Margo Koby at the top doubles spot. Justine Blick was the Covenant representative on the USA South All-Sportsmanship team.

The Scots won three straight matches in early March, and had four wins in five contests overall during the stretch. The streak culminated with a 9-0 rout of Berea to open USA South play on March 23. Over the final weeks of the regular season, Covenant came up just short in three close matches, two 5-4 losses to LaGrange and a 6-3 defeat at Brevard. The Scots would end the season on a high note by picking up a 9-0 victory over Wesleyan.

Senior Masha Lanska wrapped up her career with 15 singles wins, after winning a career-best six this season, and posted 12 doubles wins in her four years as a Scot. Lanska posted an even 4-4 mark in doubles play in USA South matches.

Nine different players collected at least one singles win on the year. Newcomer Laney Beckwith was second on the team with eight victories, while fellow newcomer Blick had seven. Koby, a three-year basketball player who made her debut on the collegiate tennis court, had six singles victories.
