ROME, Ga. -- Covenant women's tennis junior Esther Eddy earned All-USA South West Division first team honors and Justine Blick was the Scots' representative on the All-Sportsmanship team, as the conference released its season awards on Thursday.
All awards are voted on by the women's tennis coach at each institution. The divisional team voting is completed only by those coaches in the particular division. The first team all-conference and individual award voting is completed by all coaches.
Eddy, a junior from Jacksonville, Fla., collects her second straight All-USA South accolade, but her first All-West Division first team honor, after posting nine singles wins on the year. The junior made the adjustment to the No. 1 spot in the lineup this year, and played the entire season there, and had an even 4-4 record in USA South play to go along with a team-high nine wins. Eddy was able to post seven doubles wins on the year with playing partner Margo Koby, all at the No. 1 spot, to go with a 4-4 record in conference action.
Blick, a sophomore from Fremont, Neb., was Covenant's representative on the All-Sportsmanship team. In her first season on the court, Blick recorded seven singles win, with six of those coming at the No. 4 position. Blick was also able to pick up five doubles victories, all at the No. 3 flight, while tallying two conference wins.
Averett senior Heidi Sarkkinen was named the conference's Player of the Year and N.C. Wesleyan freshman Fariza Abdulloeva earned Rookie of the Year. N.C. Wesleyan's Albie Brice collected Coach of the Year honors.
Covenant (6-13, 3-5 USA South) will finish the regular season on Thursday afternoon against Wesleyan. First serve at the Covenant Tennis Complex is set for 2 p.m.
