Women's Tennis Drops Two On The Weekend

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Covenant women's tennis dropped a pair of matches to USA South foes Huntingdon and LaGrange this weekend.

SATURDAY: LaGrange 5, Covenant 4

The Scots could not hold off LaGrange falling 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.

LaGrange took the first point of the match taking before Covenant answered winning the final two doubles matches to take a 2-1 match lead.

Justine Blick and Laney Beckwith took care of Carli Jones and Makayla Red 8-3 to even the match and Ester Eddy and Margo Koby took an 8-6 victory over Jenna Eppes and Nicole Phillips to take the lead.

The Panthers were able to even things up at three singles as Ansley Moody defeated Masha Lanska 6-4, 6-3. Covenant answered as Margo Koby took a straight-set 7-5 (3), 7-5 victory over Phillips to give the Scots the lead right back at the two flight.

LaGrange responded again as Eppes took the one spot over Eddy in a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 victory. Covenant picked up their fourth point of the match with a Beckwith win over Jones 6-0, 6-3 at the five spot.

The Panthers answered taking the final two matches of the day to come away with the victory. Callaway Cook came out with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Blick to tie things up at four before Red took a three-set, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0, victory over Blauw for the match.

Covenant fell to 6-12 on the year, and 3-4 in USA South play. LaGrange is now 6-7 overall, and 3-4 in conference play.

FRIDAY: Huntingdon 9, Covenant 0

The Scots dropped Friday's match to Huntingdon 9-0.

The Hawks got off to a quick start sweeping doubles to take a 3-0 match lead. All three tandems for the Scots fought, taking at least two games in each match. Mariah Westra and Masha Lanska forced 11 games before eventually falling 8-3 to Heather Tabor and Kacy Howard.

Huntingdon was able to clinch the match in singles play.

Lanska dropped set one 6-0 but was able to take two games away Zoya Robinson before falling 6-2 at the two spot. Sara Blauw made Kacey Stephens work falling 6-2, 6-2 at six singles. Esther Eddy was the only Scot able to take a set from the Hawks. Eddy won set number 6-3 over Josie Wadell before dropping the final two sets 6-1, 1-0 (10-2).

The Hawks improved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in the USA South. Covenant dropped to 6-11, and 3-3 in conference play.


The Scots wrap up their regular season as they play host to Maryville College at the Covenant Tennis Complex on April 19. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
