LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 match to LaGrange at the Covenant Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
After starting the match up 2-0 Covenant (4-8) allowed LaGrange (4-4) to come back and take a 4-3 lead in singles play. Justine Blick knotted things back up at four with a thrilling three-set victory over Callaway Cook 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1.
After dropping the first set 6-3, Sara Blauw played MaKayla Reed all the way to a tiebreak, eventually falling in set two 7-6 (4) for LaGrange to win the match.
Covenant started the non-conference contest up 2-0 by default. The Panthers had to default three doubles and six singles due to not enough players traveling.
The guests made up for it, quickly evening things after doubles play taking one and two doubles. Jenna Eppes and Nicole Phillips defeated Esther Eddy and Margo Koby 8-2. Mariah Westra and Masha Lanska played all the way to a tiebreak before eventually falling 8-7 (5) to Ansley Moody Cook.
Moody gave the Panthers a 3-2 match lead taking the three singles flight 6-3, 6-3 over Lanska. Eddy was able to tie things back up with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Eppes. Koby played Phillips to a three-set match before eventually falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-0.
Blick then had her late match heroics to even the score at four before LaGrange took match 5-4 in the final match of the night.
The Scots take on Wesleyan on Saturday at 12 p.m. from the Covenant Tennis Complex.
